High Intensity Training

I have realized that moving toward my goal of completing a triathlon will require that I increase the intensity of my workouts as I go. However increasing intensity also has to be tempered with the need to not end up crawling down the road with an injury. I am amazed at the devil-may-care attitude of some guys that train to a point that looks close to total incoherence. Maybe I'm a bit soft for this sport but I think there are at least a few cues that should let you know if things are getting out of hand.

Your training intensity may be too high if...

1. You have stopped sweating but there are small piles of salt on the gym equipment you have used.
2. People keep asking "Are you okay?"
3. You once got pulled over for speeding on the highway... while on your bike.
4. Other gym members have nicknamed you Lassie because of your "last rep" howling.
5. Your heart rate monitor goes off continually even though it's still in your gym bag.
6. You replace your shoes every two weeks.
7. When you get off your bike to do your run the tires have smoke coming off them.
8. Your gym now has a time limit on treadmill use.
9. Paramedics call to get your workout schedule and routes every week.
10.Your idea of training to failure is blacking out.
