I should have know that planning my first triathlon on April 1 might be
a mistake. I have been serious about getting to the starting line the
last few months and after I made the last entry on this website "No More
Talking About It" I basically took all the time I used to spend online
and put it towards training. I printed out the info for entering the
race and posted it in my office for motivation. I was ready. Some 8
weeks later it was finally time to make it happen. I had everything
packed the night before the race and I double checked the link on my
website to make sure the time was correct. I noticed the site looked
different but the My First Tri information was the same as I had printed
months earlier. I had a hard time sleeping the night before and I wanted
to get an early start so I could register before the race without any
problems.
By 6:00 am I was on my way to my first tri in beautiful Galveston
Texas. I was there well before the race was to start and followed the
tri parking signs to an empty parking lot. There was no
one anywhere in sight. Obviously something was wrong so I tried to find
someone to ask where the triathlon was. I never found anyone so I headed
back to get online and see what I had missed. It turns out the link I
had put on my website had been redirected to a tri in San Antonio for a
'My First Tri Event'. For whatever reason the Galveston event had been
cancelled except for the Ironman distance that was to be held the next
day.
I am extremely disappointed. I would have never imagined the tri
wouldn't happen and because I cut out my web surfing time I totally
missed the change. I am sure I will find another one soon but it takes a
lot out of you to work so hard and be ready for a race only to find out
it has been cancelled. I should have know since it was April Fools
Day... |
